University of York Award

Vice Chancellor’s Gold Award for Sustainability
(23rd April 2013)

CIRCLE Director Dr. Andy Marshall received an award in recognition of his work towards understanding and protecting the natural world.

Achievements highlighted by the award team included the establishment of CIRCLE, and the Udzungwa Forest Project in Tanzania, and the associated use of scientific research work for practical gain. The work has led to increased employability of university graduates, rainforest teaching in North Yorkshire schools, recovery of rainforest habitat in Tanzania, and increased native species conservation work by British zoos. Dr. Marshall’s work has also led to three other awards for biodiversity conservation, and widespread media coverage.

The University of York Vice Chancellor awards are presented annually for outstanding achievement towards fulfilling university objectives. Dr. Marshall’s award was in the “Sustainability” category, and was considered gold standard, the highest category of VC Award.
